Campus Improvements

You may notice some construction activity around the Nisqually Middle School campus! Here are details on what is happening:

Bus loop and parking lot improvements

During summer 2024, we added about 20 parking stalls, and better defined student pickup and dropoff areas. We also made improvements to the bus lane for special education students.

Track and field improvements

As part of the 2020 bond promise to refresh playfields, NTPS is upgrading the Nisqually Middle School track and football/soccer/play field. This project will include:

  • Replacing the grass field with turf for year-round use
  • Resurfacing the track.
  • Adding lights, so the facility can be used at night.
  • Adding bleachers.

This project will benefit both the school and the larger community! It will:

  • Add physical education programming space for NMS students.
  • Position NMS as a resource for large middle school events, freeing up South Sound Stadium for other events.
  • Accelerate and save money on the River Ridge High School modernization by providing a space for RRHS athletes while RRHS athletic space is modernized.
  • Add to overall athletic facilities capacity for community use.

Work is expected to be completed in mid-2025. Crews will access the project from Marvin Road, so we anticipate minimal disruption to Nisqually Middle School operations.
